A Mahaica husband and wife have found themselves behind bars and facing charges on two related offences.

Hours after a 41-year-old Helena #1, Mahaica businessman, was arrested for unlicensed gun and ammunition possession, his 40-year-old wife was also arrested after she attempted to bribe a police officer to secure the husband’s release.

A Police statement revealed that the businessman was held at his home on Saturday, after ranks found a .32 Pistol along with fifty .32 and seventeen  9MM rounds of live ammunition.

According to the statement, Police ranks acting on intelligence swooped down on the suspect’s home and conducted a search, during which the illegal weapon and ammunition were found in his bedroom.

Moments after his arrest, the wife turned up at the Mahaica Police Station and offered a bribe of five hundred and twenty five thousand dollars ($525,000.00) to one of the investigating ranks to forego the charges against her husband.

She was immediately arrested and the money seized. Both husband and wife are now being processed for court. They are expected to appear early in the new week.
