Woman sentenced to 12 and a half years in jail for stabbing death of push-cart operator over $1000

A single mother will spend the next 12 and ½ years in jail for the stabbing death of a 43-year-old push-cart operator.

The incident occurred back in 2013 and the man was stabbed to death during an argument over $1000.

In Court today, Vanessa Baird stood before Justice Navindra Singh and opted to enter a plea of guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

She was immediately sentenced to 12 and a half years behind bars.

It was back in December 2013, when the woman got into a fight with the man after she reportedly gave him $1000 to buy a box of food for her, and he converted the money to his own use.

During a scuffle, the woman grabbed a knife and stabbed the man repeatedly to his chest.

He fell to the ground and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Justice Singh explained that his sentence came in light of the woman’s decision to enter a plea of guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter and she has shown signs of change since being incarcerated since 2013.

He suggested that she takes advantage of any anger management class that might be provided by the prison.
