Woman shot dead, sister injured during Corentyne home invasion
Police at Fyrish on the Corentyne Coast are investigating the brutal murder of 57-year-old Patricia Samaroo who was shot to the head on Friday night during an invasion at her Corentyne home by two  men. The dead woman’s sister Annetta Samaroo was injured in the same incident.
According to a Police report, just after 11 o’ clock on Friday night, two men kicked open the door of the home and entered the building. One of the men was armed with a firearm.
“The armed man discharged rounds at the two sisters fatally wounding Patricia Samaroo to her head and injuring Annetta Samaroo to her abdomen, after which they escaped in a motor vehicle. Annetta has been admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital”, the Police statement added.
The Guyana Police Force said quick response by the police led to the detaining of the motor vehicle used by the perpetrators which had been rented, and the arrest of two men, one of whom has been identified as one of the suspects. Both men are in custody as the investigations continue and a search is underway for the man who it is believed was armed with the weapon.
Police investigators believe the men went to the house solely to kill the two women. It is also believed that a wanted man may be connected to the incident.
The Guyana Police Force is facing new calls for it to toughen up its response to the crime situation in the country. Recent police figures point to an increase in robberies and murders in Guyana.
