Woodlands Hospital cashier and security charged in $1.4 million heist

A cashier and a security guard, who were both attached to the Woodlands Hospital, appeared in Court this morning and were both slapped with larceny charges.

It is alleged that the two, Susan Daniels of Canal #1 and Haniff Peters of La Penitence conspired and stole $1.4 million from the private hospital back in August.

The Court heard that when the money went missing, the cashier reported to the Police that she had been robbed.

She was tasked with placing the day’s earnings into a safety deposit box at a commercial bank but reported to her job that she had been robbed of the money.

The Guyana Police Force launched an investigation and could not substantiate the woman’s story. Further investigations revealed the alleged involvement of the security guard and a decision was made to charge both with the $1.4 million heist.

After the case was revealed in Court today, both of the accused pleaded not guilty. Daniels was placed on $200,000 bail while the security guard, Haniff Peters was granted $100,000 bail. They will both make their next appearance in Court in December.
