Boyce and Jefford organisation launches Relay Festival

According to Boyce, 10 relay events, 5-a-side Football, Softball Cricket and Dominoes will be the feature events of the day, along with a grudge 100m race that features Colin ‘Poison’ Boston of Big Boss Trucking Service against Cadogan of Dynasty.

The Boyce and Jefford Organisation has launched the inaugural Boyce and Jefford Relay Festival and Family Fun Day at 704 Lounge. The event, which promised lots of fun and prizes, is scheduled for April 24, at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
“Let me indicate that despite being a first for Boyce/Jefford, it is actually a two-year old concept for us,” Chairman of the Boyce and Jefford Committee told the media. “A lot of fun, competition and rivalry are expected on the day,” Boyce said.
According to Boyce, 10 relay events, 5-a-side Football, Softball Cricket and Dominoes will be the feature events of the day, along with a grudge 100m race that features Colin ‘Poison’ Boston of Big Boss Trucking Service against Cadogan of Dynasty.
Boyce said that each participant in the race is lodging $500,000 for a $1,000,000 winner-take-all purse to settle an age-old score. In addition, he informed that each relay race carries a total purse of $40,000 with $20,000 for the winner; $12,000 for second and $8,000 for third place. Football, Cricket and Domino Competitions will also carry cash prizes.
“On that day, quite a lot of cash will be on offer. We want to make this event as big as possibly. There was a clarion call for us to do something in Georgetown given the success we have had in Linden with the Boyce/Jefford Classic,” Boyce said.
Technical Director, Mark Scott noted that all the top clubs and athletes in Guyana will be in the Relay Festival, indicating that the events are (male and females): 4×100, 4x200m 4×400, Sprint Medley Females (100m, 100m, 200m, 400m), Sprint Medley Males (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m)
Distance Medley Females (400m, 600m, 600m, 800m), Distance Medley Males (400m, 600m, 600m, 1200m).
In addition, Scott revealed that eight top “small goal” Football teams will be competing for the top honor including Sparta Boss, Agricola, Police, Rich Boys, Wartsila, Barber Shop, Brazilians and Customs. The winner pockets $50,000 and runner-up $25,000.
He informed that day’s activities features a Media Race while children events, including bouncy castles and trampolines will be on the programme.
Floodlight Master will take on Boyce/Jefford Stars in a male Softball Match while Trophy Stall Angels battle Mike’s Well Woman in a grudge Softball Cricket game. Scott said that there is an event for everybody, pleading for support from the public.
Representative of the National Sports Commission, Seon Erskine, on behalf of Director of Sport, Christopher Jones said that the NSC is proud to be associated with events that promote fitness & wellness of the nation.
“Mr. Jefford and Mr. Boyce have been doing a great bit of work. We want to encourage them to take their programmes to other regions and to keep up the good work,” Erskine said, adding that the Commission is pleased to be associated with the event.
Banks DIH Non-Alcoholic Manager, Clayton McKenzie, under the Malta Supreme Brand, also echoed similar sentiments, stating that the conglomerate is please to be associated with the event that promises to be all inclusive with lots of sporting excitement.
McKenzie said that the planned event is indicative of the motto of Malta Supreme that is to ‘Be Smart, Be Strong, Be Supreme’. When asked, Boyce said that the entrance fee is $500 for Adults and $200 for children.
