Barbados Pride has managed to make it two from two against the Guyana Jaguars in this year’s Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament being played in Barbados and Antigua as they won by two wickets on Sunday at the Three Ws Oval, Cave Hill.
The win was inspired by Ashley Nurse who claimed three wickets and that restricted the Jaguars to 186 all out in 50 overs before half centuries from Kevin Stoute, who was promoted to open the batting and Shai Hope led their response.Pride’s chase was not off to the best start as they lost their most in-form batsman Kraigg Braithwaite for three and the score on 10.
However, Stoute (51) and Hope joined forces for a solid 70 run partnership which put them in a strong position to win the match. With 60 runs required from 11 overs and six wickets remaining, the game was still in Pride’s favour but they suffered another blow when Shane Dowrich fell victim to Permaul at 146-5.
Anxiety was further raised in the Jaguars camp as Pride lost their top scorer Shai Hope for 63 at 160.Two more wickets went down for the Pride but Carlos Braithwaite and Jomel Warrican saw them over the line as they finished unbeaten on 11 and two respectively. Reifer was Jaguars top bowler, collecting 4-46 while Ronsford Beaton claimed two wickets.
When the Jaguars batted, they were off to a good start with the opening pair of Assad Fudadin (18) and Rajendra Chandrika (30) setting the tone with a 58 run partnership.
However, after Chandrika departed bowled by the Jaguars’ menace, off spinner Ashley Nurse for 30, the remaining nine wickets collapse for 128 runs.A 42 run eight wicket partnership between wicket keeper batsman Anthony Bramble (29) and Permaul (32) help the Jaguars from falling for a total below 150 but at that time there were limited overs remaining resulting in them having to take chances.
Nurse was the chief wicket taker for Pride with 3-28 from 10 overs while Holder and Chase captured two wickets each.
