It seems every year, the only script pre written for the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships is the  that of who walks away with the swimming championships title.

And at the 56th year of the hoisting of the event, North  Georgetown ensured they were no surprises as they  easily won the title on Monday at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal.

Also called  District 11, the Champions amassed, 401 points after 54 events were completed while their nearest competitor being Upper Demerara- Kwakwani with 273 points.

North West  took third with 207 points, while South Georgetown (196) and Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon (182) were  the other districts in the top five.

The points table  was completed by  East Georgetown (179), Cuyuni- Mazaruni (172), Rupununi (126), East Bank Demerara (53), West Demerara (27), Potaro- Supenaam  (15), West Berbice (14), East Coast Demerara (10), New Amsterdam – Canjie (10) and Corentyne (1).

The  thrilling race of the day was certainly the Boys 200M freestyle which came down to a tie between North Georgetown and East Georgetown as both teams recorded a time of 1:54.66.

The female event was easily won by North  Georgetown, clocking a time of 2:06.57 ahead of  Rupununi.

On Tuesday,  the Championships  turn to the tracks where the  action will get underway at the National Stadium, Providence.
