NSC joins forces with IntellectStorm to launch National Sport Database

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has joined forces with  IntellectStorm – an Information Technology based solutions and marketing company – to implement Guyana’s online National Sport Database.

The announcement was made on Thursday at the NSC on Homestretch Avenue.

It is being done at a startup cost of $2.8 million. The company will be gathering data from as far back as the 1950’s to digitally document the achievement of the country’s athletes from all disciplines.

According to Director of Sport, Christopher Jones, “the database will be used to monitor training and development of athletes”

The database will also have a Facebook page that would allow the public to have access to information on athletes.

Jones also said that the E-Governance Unit would provide the technical guidance and along with IntellectStorm who was selected after a tender process, the NSC’s database will help Guyana’s athletes significantly

Additionally, Commissioner at the NSC, Edison Jefford posited that that the steps taken by the NSC is historic since information on local athletes has been a concern in sports in the country.

The commissioner pointed out that following athletes progress will commence from the school level. He said that the NSC will be “chronicling the athletes progress from the inter-schools level right though to nationals.”

The database would not only have information on athletes but also on coaches who will be selected to be trained overseas.
