Western Tigers and Police to face-off in Petra/Limacol Football Finals

It will be Western Tigers and the Guyana Police Force that will go head-to-head in the finals of the 2nd Annual Petra Organised, Limacol Round-robin Knock-out Football Tournament.

The two teams secured thrilling semi-final wins on Sunday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Bourda.

The semi-finals was certainly a treat with both matches keeping spectators on the edge of their seats due to the see-saw nature of the them.

In the first match, Police defeated Winners Connection 2-1; Junior Gordon in the 25th minute had given the lawmen the lead, which they kept until half time.

The second half was more exciting as the Linden unit then equalized via goal from Allon Garrett in the 68th minute.

With the match all but certain to head into extra time, Lerone Charles scored in the 85th minute for the thrilling victory.

In  the headline clash , which was a rematch of  the Stag Nations Cup final,  Western Tigers came from  behind  to defeat Santos 3-2.

Santos took the early lead in the 26th minute via a header from Ryan October but the experienced Devon Millington led his side’s response with a brilliant hat-trick.

Millington firstly leveled the scores with a scorching shot from the right wing in the 40th minute but an own goal from a free-kick had  given Santos the lead once more in the 52nd.

The talented player then found his magic touch two minutes  to etch his name on the score sheet for the second time, followed by a third  in the 58th.

The final is slated for this Saturday at the same venue from 9pm.

Winners Connection and Santos will do battle in the third place-off from 7pm.

Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
