19 years in jail for pensioner who raped teenage girl

In the High Court this morning, Justice Brassington Reynolds sentenced a 67-year-old man to 19 years in prison for the rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The incident occurred back in 2017.

The convict, George Robin, maintained his innocence even as the sentence was handed down.

In a letter to the Court, the victim told the Judge that she is still traumatized by what took place. The young woman said she tries to forget what took place but it remains in her memory.

A probation report of the convict portrayed him as a community leader and jovial person, who is a committed family man.

But the report also portrayed him as a molester and someone who had an eye for teenage girls. The Court was told that the man once operated a shop at a school and would ask the school girls for kisses.

In handing down the jail sentence, Justice Reynolds said it appeared as though the convict had two different sides to him.

Two weeks ago after he was found guilty of raping the young girl, the convict repeatedly said he was innocent of the crime.
