Chinese national charged for attempted murder after beating man outside supermarket

A Chinese national who manages a supermarket in the Diamond community, was today charged with attempted murder following the beating of a 59-year-old man outside the supermarket.

The accused, Xinoxi Qu, appeared before the Chief Magistrate and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of attempted murder.

In Court, the Prosecutor related that on the 27th April in the community of Diamond, the supermarket manager attacked and assaulted Gregory Sanmoogan with the intent to commit murder.

It is alleged that the Chinese national accused the man of picking up a bag of money in the supermarket. He attacked the man from behind and started to punch him to the back of the head, even after the man fell to the ground.

No money was found in the man’s possession, but the beating resulted in the elderly man suffering a stroke. The victim was hospitalised and is now restricted to the use of a wheel chair.

The accused was granted $400,000 bail and will have to report to the Grove Police station weekly. His travel documents have also been confiscated by the authorities.

The matter will continue in the new month.
