The Guyana Prison Service has announced that a 23-year-old prisoner who was nearing the completion of his sentence, is now on the run after escaping during labour duties.

The man has been identified as Derrick Oudkerk.  He is originally from Watooka Linden and was serving an 18 month jail sentence for larceny.

According to Acting Prison Director, Gladwin Samuels, Oudkerk and two other prisoners were at the prison officer’s home cutting bush. He was discovered missing just around 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

Police investigators have been informed and a search is underway.
