With questions raised as to how a man from the Dominican Republic was able to pass through Guyana’s two main airports without his forged passport being noticed, that man is now behind bars after being charged and remanded.

26-year-old, Jose Alberto Medina, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday and was charged with presenting a forged passport to an Immigration Officer.

Medina arrived in Guyana at the Cheddi Jagan Airport using a forged Guatemalan passport and was able to gain entry without being noticed.

The same day at the Eugene F. Correia Airport at Ogle, with intent to defraud, the accused used the same passport as he left Guyana for Barbados.

He was refused entry into Barbados with the Immigration Officers there giving no reason for their decision. He was returned to Guyana and it was on that return that it was realised that his passport was forged.

Medina was arrested and charged. Yesterday, the Chief Magistrate refused bail for him and ordered that he be held in remand until the continuation of the case.
