Former salesman charged over robbery at Harris Paints

A former Salesman at Harris Paints Limited Guyana, was today remanded to prison over in connection with a $7 million robbery at the same company.

The accused, 22-year-old Tarquin Atkins of B’ Field Sophia, appeared in the Courtroom of  Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the allegation made against him.

According to the Police Prosecutor, on the 16th November at Water Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others and armed with guns, the youth robbed Harris Paints employee Ginell Williams of $7.7M in cash, which was the property of the paint company.

In was explained by the Prosecutor, that just after the store opened for business, the accused and some other armed men barged in and demanded the money from a safe.

The employees were held at gunpoint as the gunmen raided the safe and made good their escape.

Atkins was identified as one of the gunmen and was arrested and charged. He will remain in custody until his next Court date in December.
