Four arrested after found with unlicensed gun in car

Though there has been a recent spike in criminal activity over the past week, the Guyana Police Force is still making inroads in its efforts to arrest the problem.

In a statement today, the Guyana Police Force announced that at about 11:30 last night, ranks of a mobile patrol intercepted a motor car on Princes Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown and conducted a search.

In the car, which had four occupants including a woman, the police unearthed an unlicensed .380 pistol with six live matching rounds.

The suspects have all been taken into police custody and charges are likely to be laid soon.

Earlier in the month, the police reaped success, when a car on the Avenue of the Republic was stopped and searched.

That car, which was occupied by Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard Captain, Dominic Gilphin and three others, contained .32 tarus pistol with a magazine and two live .32 rounds of ammunition.

A parcel of marijuana was also found in the trunk.
