Guyana Police Force issues Wanted Bulletin for NY-based political activist Rickford Burke

Popular US-based Guyanese political activist Rickford Burke is wanted by the Police Force for questioning about his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to commit a felony of defamatory libel in order to extort money.

The Police Force lists Burke’s last known addresses as Brooklyn New York and Bartica in Guyana.

Burke has dismissed the wanted bulletin by the Police and has repeated that the Guyana Police Force is attempting to stain his character.

The wanted bulletin is related to claims filed by East Coast car dealer, Afraz Mohamed.

The car dealer had reportedly complained that there was an attempt to extort money from him by two reporters for them to remove a Facebook post about the businessman.

The two reporters were charged earlier this week, and according to a statement that was issued by the Attorney General, the two reporters, Alex Wayne and Gary Eleazer, claimed they worked for a Facebook information page that was managed by Burke.

Burke and the administrators of the Facebook page, Guyana News Network, have all dismissed the claim.

The East Coast car dealer had reportedly reached out to Burke after a number of persons complained on the activist social media page about being duped in their car dealings with the East Coast company.

In an audio recording released by Mr. Burke today, a voice believed to be that of the car dealer could be heard requesting Burke’s assistance in dealing with the complaints from various customers on the activist’s page.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force announced today that businessman Derwain Bess was charged and released on bail today for being involved in an alleged conspiracy against the same car dealer.

Bess has accused the car dealer of ripping him off with a fuel shipment that the car dealer had handled for him. He is currently seeking redress in the High Court over that matter and has pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy charge against him.
