Thirty-three-year-old, Brian Green appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the charge. He was immediately remanded to prison until May 10th.

Lethem miner remanded to jail for murder of Brazilian national during row over woman

A Lethem miner was today remanded to prison after he was charged for the murder of a Brazilian national, who was chopped to death during a confrontation over a woman.

Thirty-three-year-old, Brian Green appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the charge. He was immediately remanded to prison until May 10th.

It is alleged that on the 15th April, at Quartz Stone Backdam Cuyuni, Green murdered his fellow miner AdrinĀ  Santos during a heated argument over a woman who caught their interest.

During the row, Green reportedly left the scene and returned with a cutlass and started to chop the Brazilian man about his body and to his head.

The injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he eventually passed away.
