Maryann Daby freed on attempted murder charge but still faces unlicensed firearm charges

More than a year after she was charged with the attempted murder of a Police Officer for allegedly pointing a gun at him and attempting to discharge it, Accountant Maryann Daby walked out of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court a free woman this afternoon after the presiding Magistrate, Leron Daly, dismissed the case after finding that the evidence put forward was not credible.

The 26-year-old was charged in May last year after she allegedly attempted to discharge a firearm at Police Constable Christopher Kissoon in the Thomas Lands area with the intent to commit murder. The gun reportedly did not go off.

She was also charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. She will still have to face those charges in the Court.

The Magistrate accepted the no-case submission put forward by Daby’s Attorney, Mark Waldron following conflicting testimonies by the Police officers who witnessed and investigated the matter.

The Police Prosecutor asked that the remaining charges be transferred to the Court of the Chief Magistrate since it might be seen as prejudicial for the same Magistrate to hear different related cases against the same woman.

The Magistrate has put off the matter until the end of this month.
