Mother remanded, son gets bail in marijuana possession case

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today, a 65-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son appeared before the Chief Magistrate to face marijuana possession charges.

The two accused, Bernadette Robertson and her son, Coburn Robertson stood quietly before the Chief Magistrate as the charges were read to them.

The Court heard that on the 15th February at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, the elderly woman was allegedly found with 94.2 grams of marijuana, for the purpose of trafficking.

On the same day, the son was allegedly found with 14.2 grams of marijuana.

Both mother and son told the Court that they are innocent of the charges.

The Attorney representing their interests told the Court that the woman and her son have no knowledge of the illegal substance nor its alleged presence in their home.

However, the Police Prosecutor said that during an oral statement as part of the investigations, the mother allegedly told investigating ranks that she sells the marijuana as a way of paying her bills.

After the arguments were made, the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $75,000 to the son but remanded the mother to jail.

They will both have to return to Court in Linden in mid-March for the continuation of the case.
