A Prisoner at the Lusignan jailhouse who is currently serving a one year sentence for larceny could now find himself facing some additional time with his new friends.

The Guyana Prison Service has reported that the prisoner (name not released), was found on Saturday with 71 grams of marijuana in sole of the slippers he was wearing.

He was reportedly searched after returning to the main prison after assisting with the delivery of meals to the holding area.

It was noticed that the slippers he was wearing was not the same one he left main prison with and a search was conducted. The marijuana was found neatly stashed in an opening on the sole of the slippers. Charges are likely soon.

And at the New Amsterdam prison, a civilian driver was detained on Saturday after the truck he was driving was searched by a Policeman on duty at the prison and four packs of cigarettes were found behind the driver’s seat.

The man is a frequent deliveryman of dietary items to the prison. No declaration was made prior to the search.

The information was reported to Central Police Station and the matter is being investigated.
