Six months in jail for driver who allowed students to jump from moving bus

A driver who operated his mini-bus with the passenger door open and allowed his student passengers to jump from the moving bus, will be spending the next six months in jail.

The driver, Omkar Rambharose appeared in Court on Wednesday and was charged with dangerous driving, failure to ensure the safety of passengers and breach of insurance.

He pleaded guilty to three offences and was slapped with the six-month jail sentence. In addition to the prison sentence, Rambharose’s driver’s license has also been suspended by the Police Force.

The conductor of the bus managed to escape from lawmen and is still to be arrested.

The driver of the Route 44 bus was arrested after a video surfaced on social media showing him traversing the East Coast highway while the passenger door was open and students were allowed to jump from the bus.

The Guyana Police Force is encouraging persons to continue to send videos of those drivers breaking the law to its Facebook page for investigation.
