Taxi driver remanded over murder of colleague

28-year-old taxi driver Troy Griffith of Mocha Arcadia was remanded to jail on Monday after being charged with the murder of another taxi driver, 41-year-old Quincy Weekes.

Griffith appeared at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court where the indictable charge was read to him. He was not allowed to enter a plea to the charge which stated that on the 14th September at the Mocha Access road he murdered Quincy Weekes.

The accused was remanded to jail and will make his next Court appearance on the 18th November.

The accused and the murder victim were known to each other. Reports stated that last Wednesday morning, the two men got into a row over $500.

During the row, it is alleged that Weekes threw a substance suspected to be acid at Griffith and the 28-year-old man retaliated by arming himself with a knife and repeatedly stabbing Griffith to the upper body.

Police from the nearby Providence station rushed to the scene. The older man was pronounced dead at the scene while his assailant was taken into custody.
