Problems in a relationship became physical and a taxi driver was remanded to jail today after he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

37-year-old, Curtis Edwards stood before City Magistrate, Leron Daly and denied the allegation made against him.

The Court heard that on the 8th July, 2017 at South Road, Bourda, Edwards unlawfully wounded Desmona Taylor with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

The two were in a relationship, but when the relationship started to fall apart, the man allegedly refused to let the woman go.

The Court was told that on the day in question, Edwards appeared at the woman’s work place, demanding answers about the relationship.

The woman told him that she could not remain in the relationship and it was at that point that the man threatened to throw a corrosive substance on the woman, telling her that if he could not have her, no one else could be with her.

When the woman dismissed his threat, he allegedly started to beat her about her body and slammed her into a metal grill resulting in a number of injuries.

The man ran from the scene after the Police was summoned and was only recently arrested and charged.

Bail was refused and the accused will make his next court appearance on the 4th April.
