Police investigators in different parts of the country found themselves breaking Christmas day investigating three murders that occurred within 24 hours. Two of the murders occurred on Christmas eve while the third took place early on Christmas morning.
At around 10 pm on Tuesday night at Four Miles, Port Kaituma, a 19-year-old gold miner was stabbed to death.
He has been identified as Neville Moonsammy.
A police report stated that Moonsammy and a group of other miners were imbibing at a shop in the company of his father.
He was reportedly on his way home in the company of a friend when he came under attack and was stabbed to the face and hand. There has been no arrest in the case.
Meanwhile, in Corentyne, Berbice, the lawmen there are probing the murder of 27-year-old vendor Steven “Shabba” Lewis.
He was killed at around 10:20 pm on Christmas eve. The man was reportedly involved in a chic-chic board game when he got into an argument with a cane cutter and the two got into a fight.
Lewis was badly beaten to the head and was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. The suspect has been taken into custody.
And early this morning at Rose Hall, Corentyne, 30-year-old driver Carlos Tony Williams was killed outside a bar at Portuguese Quarters, Corentyne Berbice.
A Police statement said Williams, his wife and other friends were at the club having a drink when Williams went to the outside.
After he took a while to return, his wife reportedly went in search of him and saw him involved in a fight with another man. When she attempted to part the fight, the other man whipped out a knife and slashed her to one of her legs. Another friend attempted to part the fight and the man attacked him with the knife also.
As the brawl continued, Williams was stabbed to the abdomen. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.
The suspect has since been arrested as the probe continues.
