Woman charged and granted bail for unlawful killing after stabbing death of abusive boyfriend

In the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, a 21-year-old woman was charged for the unlawful killing of her boyfriend and granted bail in the sum of $250,000.

The charge is related to the stabbing death of Devon Ali. The incident reportedly took place on July 29, 2017 in Queen Street, Kitty.

The accused, Lisa Hayley, wept throughout her appearance, as the charge was read to her. The Court was told that the woman and the man shared an abusive relationship, with him being the abuser.

The woman’s Attorney told the Court that she was ashamed of telling anyone of the abuse that she suffered at the hands of Ali and made a decision to leave their home.

On the day in question, the man reportedly turned up at the house of the woman’s brother, where she was staying. He was reportedly armed with two knifes and during a confrontation between the two, she managed to wrestle one of the knives out of his hands and stabbed him to the chest.

She told investigators that the man was the father of her two kids and she had no intention of killing him, during the confrontation.

After listening to the particulars of the case, the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $250,000 and ordered the young lady to return to Court on August 7, 2017.
