The Guyana Elections Commission has announced that as the house-to-house registration exercise wraps up this Saturday, its field staff conducting the process will be working for additional hours.

In a statement this afternoon, the Elections Commission announced that for the remaining days of the exercise, the field staff will be working from 10am to 7pm daily.

The working hours were previously from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The Elections Commission announced yesterday that the Chairman, retried Justice Claudette Singh, has made a decision to end the house-to-house exercise this Saturday, 31st August.

In its statement, GECOM said the data gathered from the house to house registration will be merged with the data from the existing National Register of Registrants.

There will be an extensive claims and objections exercise before a preliminary voters’ list is produced for the elections.
