Opposition Leader Joe Harmon has poured cold water on the two no-confidence motions brought by members of the Alliance For Change against the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Region Four, who are both APNU members.
The motions filed by the AFC members are seeking to remove their coalition partners, Chairman, Daniel Seeram and Vice-Chairman, Samuel Sandy from presiding over the country’s most populated region and the coalition’s strongest electoral base.
During a press conference today, Mr Harmon said that there appears to be some disagreement among the members which while being nothing new, will be resolved.
“But I can say to you that at the level of the leadership of the AFC and APNU, that these issues are being resolved. As a matter of fact, will be resolved and they will be resolved to the benefit of the people of region 4 that are affected by this motion, so that we can have a smooth movement in the RDC on issues which affect the thousands of Guyanese who voted for us,” the Opposition leader said.
According to Harmon, the issue regarding the no-confidence motions is what makes democracy and coalition governments strong.
“You will have statements being made by persons and this is what I call the strength of our democracy, that we are able to deal with dissensions that occurs within our rank from time to time and that we come out of it stronger we believe that we are better together,” Mr. Harmon said.
The motions according to the AFC, are in direct response to the continued failures and shortcomings in the management of the affairs of the people in this key geographical region.
“Insofar as the no-confidence motions are concerned that they are matters which will be dealt with internally, as I said one motion came up before the RDC, and the Vice-Chairman dealt with it in a proper way and I am very proud in the way in which he has dealt with it and I am proud of our Councilors,” Mr. Harmon noted.
Back in 2018, it was an AFC Member of Parliament, Charandass Persaud, who sided with the then Opposition PPP and voted against the APNU+AFC Coalition government, toppling the government which was ousted in the 2020 elections.
