Guyana has recorded 10 new cases of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours as more tests are being done. The total number of confirmed cases recorded since since the 11th March stands at 92.

In her daily update today, the Public Health Minister complained about citizens still not following the guidelines and stay at home orders. She said that attitude is not only putting more persons at risk, but the health workers are now at a greater risk.

“Our health care workers continue to work selflessly in order to protect us all, but you continue to behave very selfishly, with total disregard for your own safety and for your own life. With regard to the social distancing guidelines, you have interpreted them to suit your own agenda. Not only are you continuing to congregate in large numbers, but you are also there way past the curfew time and with no face mask for your protection and those around you”, Minister Lawrence reported.

She complained that persons are still ignoring the warnings about the seriousness of the disease even as the numbers continue to climb.

Minister Lawrence said “it is extremely unfair to those who are following the guidelines to be placed at unnecessary risk. From the inception you were all told that we can stop COVID-19 from spreading; by simply staying home and following all the precautionary guidelines; that advice is still in effect. You know all these guidelines, so please adhere to them so that we can get on with our lives and our livelihood. We are reporting ten new cases bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 92.”

The total number of confirmed cases includes the 9 deaths and 27 recoveries. There are a total of 56 active cases. All 56 of those persons are in isolation at a government health facility. There are three persons in the Coronavirus ICU.

Just last week, the Government announced a one-month extension in the curfew and other measures aimed at fighting the coronavirus in Guyana.

Guyana is now doing more testing for the disease with mobile testing sites in operation in various parts of the country.
