Four persons from La Jalousie on the Essequibo Coast were taken into custody following the seizure of 135 pounds of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Sunday.

The cocaine was found hidden in a shipment of shrimp, fish and other seafood and was being prepared to be shipped to New York city.

The bust was made by agents of the Narcotics Branch of the Guyana Police Force.

News Source understands that police officers who were visiting the house of the shipper were caught off guard with a warning gunshot by a neighbour of the man who did not realize it was police investigators moving through his yard.

He is cooperating with the officers.

The shipper, Mohammed Ali, was taken into custody and is expected to face drug trafficking charges early this week.

Investigators believe that it was Ali who sent his employees to the airport with the drug shipment.

The probe is continuing.

Just recently, another suspected drug trafficker was busted at a house in Diamond with a large quantity of cocaine being stuffed in frozen seafood. He has since been charged with drug trafficking.
