Following a guilty plea, a 63-year-old man, Gregory Ramkissoon was this morning sentenced to 20 years in jail for the rape of a 4-year-old girl.
Ramkissoon appeared before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall this morning and confessed to the crime.
The incident reportedly took place three years ago in the Demerara region. He threw himself at the mercy of the Court as the trial was set to begin.
After accepting the guilty plea, the Judge handed down the 20-year prison sentence. He will only become eligible for parole after serving 75% of the sentence.
The Court was also told that he is currently serving jail time on an assault charge against the same child that he raped.
The convict offered no comments as he was ushered off from the Court back to the jailhouse.
