The death of the woman took the total number of deaths in the month of October so far to 21, which is just over half of the total number of deaths recorded in the deadliest month of the pandemic in Guyana.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health recorded Guyana’s 103rd Coronavirus related death. The latest fatal victim was a 61-year-old woman in Region One (Barima-Waini) who passed away at her home.

She tested positive for the virus after she died.

The death of the woman took the total number of deaths in the month of October so far to 21, which is just over half of the total number of deaths recorded in the deadliest month of the pandemic in Guyana.

September is so far the deadliest month with 41 deaths recorded during that month.

Officials are concerned that in the Region One area which has so far recorded 530 cases of the virus, many persons are attempting to treat themselves at home even in cases where they have become very ill.

The region, which shares a border with Venezuela, has recorded the second highest number of cases in the country, coming just after Region Four.

As of Friday at midnight, there were 47 new cases of the virus in Guyana, taking the total number of active cases to 983. Of those 983 active cases, 873 of the persons are in home isolation with the other 110 in institutional isolation.
