One week after fires at two public buildings in Essequibo triggered a major investigation, a 24-year-old man is facing charges for setting the fires.

Essequibo Coast resident and excavator operator, Keyon Davis, was charged on Wednesday for two counts of setting fire to public buildings belonging to the state.

The charges are in relation to a fire that damaged a section of the CID building at the Anna Regina Police Station and another fire that gutted a section of a building belonging to the GDF base at Maria’s Lodge, Essequibo Coast.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrates’ Court. He was not required to enter a plea to the two indictable charges. However, bail was granted in the sum of $200,000 on each charge.

His next Court appearance will be on the 5th August but he is required to report to the Suddie Police Station every Monday and Friday for the duration of the case.
