The Ministry of Public Health has announced that Guyana has recorded its 15th COVID-19 related death, which is the third for this past week.
25-year-old Lethem teacher Donna Greaves passed away early this morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was a patient in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit since the 1st July.
Greaves had reportedly fallen ill in Lethem in late June and was air dashed to the city as her condition worsened. She had initially tested negative for COVID-19 while in Lethem but a subsequent test in Georgetown came back positive.
In a Facebook post, the woman’s husband, Franklin Greaves said he believes she may have contracted the virus while in the hospital in Georgetown since all of her relatives and family back in Lethem have all tested negative for the virus.
There is no evidence that points to her contracting the virus in the Georgetown Hospital and senior Health Officials have doubted that there was any such infection.
But the husband said his wife, who was a nursery school teacher was not exposed to the virus as far as he knows.
News Source understands that the woman had all of the symptoms similar to that of a COVID-19 patient and that was why her condition was monitored closely as another test came back positive.
The Public Health Ministry has extended condolences to the woman’s family and friends.
