28-year-old motorcyclist dies in Berbice crash

A 28-year-old motorcyclist from Stanleytown Berbice, died on the spot on Saturday night when he lost control of his motorcycle and slammed into a concrete culvert.

The dead youth has been identified as Rodrigues Anthon.

A police report said the incident occurred as the young biker was riding his bike at a fast rate along Strand Public Road in New Amsterdam.

“Enquiries disclosed that the motorcyclist was proceeding west along the northern side of the said street without a safety helmet at a fast rate of speed when he lost control of the motorcycle which ended up in the northern drain and continued to proceed west where he collided with a concrete culvert which is situated on the eastern side of Strand Public Road, New Amsterdam Berbice then pitched off the said motorcycle and further collided into a building which is located on the western side of Strand Public Road New Amsterdam Berbice”, the Police statement said.

The youth suffered multiple injuries to his head and body and was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the New Amsterdam hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A full post-mortem examination is to be performed on the body.
