The 38-year-old gold miner who was one of the last persons seen in the company of a 16-year-old girl after a drinking spree in the company of her mother, has been charged and remanded to jail for the girl’s murder.

A police statement identified the miner as Wickroy Mitchell aka Shatta of Corentyne, Berbice.

He was charged today for the murder and has ben remanded to jail until the 2nd February next year when the matter will continue.

An earlier Police report on the girl’s death explained that on the 14th November, the girl and her mother visited a shop in the Coanna Backdam where they drank rum until becoming intoxicated.

The accused, Wickroy Mithcell, joined the two in the rum-drinking and the three left the shop together late the afternoon.

A witness revealed that the girl’s mother returned to the shop by herself moments after they left and she eventually went home.
