A 54-year-old man from Enterprise on the East Coast of Demerara lost his life tragically this morning as a fire swept through his brother’s home.
An alarm was raised about the fire just before 4 o’clock this morning at the Market Street Enterprise home of Surash Golchand.
The brother who died was identified as Shwavash Goolchand.
The Fire Service said it responded promptly after receiving information about the blaze, but by the time firemen got to the scene, the flat wooden house had already been burnt to the ground with all of its contents.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched. The Fire Service is encouraging citizens to ensure they have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in their homes.
