Today is the last day to make claims to have changes made to your name and particulars on the voter’s list, to effect changes of address and to get registered if you have never been registered.

The Guyana Elections Commission today reported that since the claims and objections period began back in October, there have been 5,636 new registrants with over 14,000 transfers and over 2500 corrections and changes. There have also been 500 objections.

The objections period will run until the 11th of this month.

Appearing on the 94.1 Morning Show today, GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Warde reminded that  objections could be made for several reasons.

“It is actually objections to any person who you may suspect might not be qualified to be included in the list. So, for example, it might be an underage person and you see a name listed there that might not be qualified to be on that official list of electors, this is the opportunity to object to that and if you think there is somebody for some reason who do not live at an address or they’re dead, this is the opportunity you have to make an objection”.

Ms. Warde further explained that the objections will have to be made by persons who are living in the same electoral district where they want to make the objection. She said any elector could make an objection and not just the political parties.
