96 of 130 New COVID cases are from Region Four

Region Four which is home to the nation’s capital is emerging again as the hotspot for Coronavirus cases in Guyana.

The Ministry of Health in its Dashboard today revealed 130 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. Of the 130 new cases, 96 are from Region Four.

Despite a curfew and several health guidelines, citizens could still be spotted in large numbers in the market places, in public transportation and at work.

There have also been reports of hotels hosting poolside parties and singing competitions although they are not permitted to host such events under the regulations.

The country also recorded its 74th death today, who was identified as a 71-year-old woman from Region Two.

The 130 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight last night have pushed the total number of active cases to 1,130.

According to the data, 895 of the active cases are in home isolation, while 235 which includes the more than 100 prisoners who tested positive are in institutional isolation. The prisoners are being held under heavy security at a government facility outside of Georgetown.

The number of recoveries has also been climbing steadily with more than 1400 recoveries recorded since the pandemic was first reported in Guyana back in March.
