Asst. Commissioner injured in early morning crash

Commander of A Division, Assistant Police Commissioner Derrick Josiah is nursing a number of serious injuries after being involved in an early morning accident at Goed Fortuin on the West Coast of Demerara.

The Assistant Commissioner’s driver is also nursing several injuries and the occupants of another are also hospitalized.

Reports indicate that the accident took place just before 5 o’ clock on Tuesday morning when Josiah’s driver attempted to evade an out of control car that headed into his lane. The driver lost control and slammed into a power pole. The other car also crashed.

Josiah and his driver were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital. Reports indicate that Josiah suffered a fractured shoulder and other injuries to his body. His driver is nursing a number of head injuries.

One of the occupants of the other car is said to be in a critical state. An investigation is underway.
