ABCE Diplomats awaiting Supreme Court’s decision on election matter

The Diplomatic Representatives of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union met this morning with Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo to further discuss matters related to last Monday’s elections and the declaration of the Region Four results.

While being tightlipped about the discussions, the US Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch told News Source that they are awaiting the outcome of the case that has been taken before the Court.

The People’s Progressive Party has turned to the Court to get the Guyana Elections Commission to hold off on a final declaration of results until those results are fully verified.

The Chief Justice is hearing arguments today in the matter and her decision could come as early as tomorrow.

The Diplomats have claimed to be in receipt of credible allegations of electoral fraud. They have been pushing for the full verification of the Region Four results.

President Granger met with the same diplomats last Thursday and made it clear to them that he will not interfere in the work of the Guyana Elections Commission.

News Source understands that the issue of the matter being taken to Court and the position of GECOM as that is taking place were among the issues raised. The issue of possible sanctions against Guyana was also floated by one of the Diplomatic representatives, News Source understands.
