AFC asked by President to submit nominee for GECOM Commissioner position

Following the death of Commissioner of the Guyana Elections Commission, Sandra Jones, President David Granger has asked the Alliance For Change to submit a nominee to fill the vacant position.

The replacement  for the GECOM Commissioner job will be coming from the government side.

AFC Leader Raphael Trotman has received a letter from the President seeking the nomination. That nominee will be expected to be put forward by the President for the vacant Commissioner spot.

The Constitution allows for the Elections Commission to have six commissioners. Three would come from the Government side and three would be drawn from the Opposition.

Ms. Jones was nominated for the position as an Opposition nominee back in 2012 by then Opposition Leader, now President, David Granger.

Her nomination followed the death of Robert Williams who sat in the position for a number of years.

Both the Ministry of the Presidency and the Alliance For Change have offered their condolences on the passing of Sandra Jones.
