Agricola convict faces new charges of illegal gun and firing shots at Policemen

A 19-year-old Agricola resident, who is currently serving a one year jail sentence for escaping from lawful custody, was today slapped with four new charges.

The man, Melvor Jeffery, was today charged for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition and discharging a loaded firearm at Police officers.

He appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly this morning and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor told the Court that on the 11th July, 2018, at Cooper Street, Agricola, the youth discharged a loaded firearm at Police Officers, Romel Kato and David Bob, with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is further alleged that on the same day, he had a shotgun along with five matching rounds in his possession, without being the holder of a license.

The incident took place while Police investigators were in the Agricola community investigating a robbery.

The accused was shot during his exchange of gunfire with the Police and escaped from the hospital, while being under Police guard.

He was later arrested, charged and found guilty of escaping from lawful custody.

The new charges against him were recently filed and the matter will continue at the end of this month.
