Search and rescue teams were dispatched on Sunday afternoon to areas close to Mahdia after a Britten Norman Islander aircraft belonging to Air Services Limited went missing with the pilot and one passenger on board. The pilot has been identified as Nicky Persaud.

The aircraft bears the registration number 8R-GHE. According to reports it was operating cargo flights between Ogle and Mahdia when air traffic control lost contact.

News Source understands that the Guyana Defence Force will dispatch its Special Forces Unit to begin ground searches.
