American man remanded on cocaine in milk packets charge

The American man who was busted at the Cheddi Jagan Airport on Friday night with over 30 pounds of cocaine in milk packets was remanded to prison on Monday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Twenty-four year old Jermaine Lowe pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry.

The Prosecutions case is that on Friday, January 17th, Lowe was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines late night flight when members of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit noticed the prohibited substance in several Kerry Gold milk packets. It was tested positive for cocaine and Lowe was arrested.

The American man had been living in Guyana for a while and according to investigators he may have been approached by persons who recognised he is U.S citizen and coerced into ferrying the drugs out of Guyana.
