AOG recommends its Churches fully follow vaccination policy for in-person services

Declaring that “all congregants must be vaccinated” to attend in-person services, the Executive of the Assemblies of God Churches in Guyana is recommending that all of its churches follow the Government COVID-19 vaccination guideline, even while it holds the position that it will not coerce anyone into making decisions about the vaccine.

In a communique dispatched to AOG Church leaders, the presbytery of the Assemblies of God in Guyana is recommending full compliance with the government’s vaccination policy for in-person services.

“We are recommending full compliance with the order of the law as stated above with immediate effect. If in-person services are held, all congregants must be vaccinated, all members should sanitize, wear a mask and practice social distancing”, the statement said.

In the cases of the churches that may opt to return to virtual sessions from the place of worship, the AOG body is recommending that all technical personnel and participants be vaccinated.

“In the face of this pandemic, we have taken this position not only as an act of obedience to Scriptures/Bible “Let every soul be subject to the higher powers, for there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” Romans 13:1…We have also taken this position because we are also compelled to be our ‘brother’s keeper’ and we will not in any way coerce anyone to make any decision which they may deem to be unconscionable”, the statement concluded.

Two days ago, the Catholic Church in Guyana while encouraging unvaccinated citizens to reconsider their decision, announced that in solidarity with the unvaccinated members, it will return fully to virtual services and close the doors of the Catholic Church until further notice.

Under the Government’s latest vaccination order, persons wishing to enter any public building, including ones that are privately owned, must be fully vaccinated or provide proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test result.
