A Bagotstown resident made his first appearance in the Georgetown Magistrate Court today and was remanded to prison for the murder of mini-bus driver Telroy James.

The 24-year-old accused, Orin Peters, did not show any emotions, as the indictable charge was read to him.

The charge stated that on the 11th July, 2017,  while in the company of another suspect, Peters murdered Telroy James in the process of a robbery by shooting him to the head.

It is alleged that Orin Peters along with the other suspect, who is still to be apprehended,  entered the bus and requested a stop at Middle Street McDoom.

As the driver brought the bus to a stop and Peters was leaving the bus, he and the other man whipped out guns and started to rob the passengers.

The driver attempted to drive off during the committal of the crime but was shot to the head.  The two men made their escape. Peters was arrested shortly after as a party of policemen gave chase in the McDoom and Agricola communities.

The other suspected gunman was able to evade capture.

The Prosecutor told the Court today that a strong case has been made out against the accused.

He was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on August 11th, as the search continues for the other man.
