Bajan man charged for murdering Guyanese wife

A Barbadian landscaper was on Monday charged for the brutal stabbing death of his Guyanese wife.

58-year-old Allan Alston Belle of St. Barnabas Heights, St. Michael was not required to enter a plea when he was charged with the murder of his wife, 64-year-old Brenda Taylor-Belle.

During his court appearance at the District A Magistrates’ Court, the accused killer was told that his next court appearance will be June 3, 2013. He was remanded to prison in the island.

Meanwhile, the Royal Barbados Police Force is also conducting an internal probe into allegations that a previous complaint by the Guyanese woman was not treated as seriously as it should have been. A few days before she was murdered, the woman had filed a complaint against the man after he attacked her and slashed one of her hands.

That incident triggered her decision to move out of the house and stay at a close male friend in the neighbouring community.  It was while at that friend that the accused made his deadly attack. According to the police report, the Guyanese woman and her friend were forced to run from the house after the suspect began breaking windows.

The woman was unable to make good her escape and it is alleged that her husband caught up with her and began attacking her with a cutlass. She was chopped and slashed multiple times about her body.

The accused drank a poisonous substance after the murder was committed and a fire set to the family house. He spent a number of days in the hospital.  (Photo by Nigel Browne/Nation News)
