Ban-Ki-Moon for one hour stop in Guyana

Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban-Ki-Moon will make a short stopover in Guyana this afternoon on his way back to the United States.

The UN Chief is expected to spend just about one hour at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport where he will be met by Foreign Affairs Minister, Carl Greenidge.

The Foreign Minister is expected to update him on the Venezuela conflict and Guyana’s position.

It was the UN Secretary General who brokered a meeting last month at the United Nations in New York between President David Granger and Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro.

That meeting resulted in Venezuela opening its doors to a UN Investigation team and also giving a commitment to accept the new Guyana Ambassador while allowing his Ambassador to return to Georgetown.

Guyana continues to rally support from the international community against Venezuela’s claim to Guyanese territory and Guyana’s maritime zone.
