A robbery attempt turned out deadly for a suspected bandit this morning after he was struck down then shot dead by a security guard after trying to snatch a bag from a businesswoman.

The incident occurred on the Railway embankment road at Lilliendaal. According to reports, the woman who was in the company of the armed security guard, was making her way from the Ogle airport when they came under attack by two bandits.

The security guard immediately opened fire on the two men, hitting one several times to the body. He collapsed and died on the spot, while the other bandit made his way to the hospital and is now nursing injuries.

It is believed that the bandits may have been trailing the woman from the airport and decided to make their attempt to rob her along the busy roadway.

Police investigators were called to the scene and a probe is underway.
