Several new categories of workers in the Caribbean have been added to the list of CARICOM nationals who will become entitled to move freely and work in member states.

In a statement last evening, CARICOM Leaders who wrapped up a meeting in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday, said they have agreed to include Agricultural Workers, Beauty Service Practitioners, Barbers and Security Guards to the agreed categories of skilled nationals who are entitled to move freely and seek employment within CARICOM member states.

The leaders have also reiterated that a skills certificate issued by one Member State would be recognised by all Member States.

Additionally, they have stated that member states will complete legislative and other arrangements in all Member States for all categories of Free Movement of Skilled Persons and
finalise the regime that permits citizens and companies of the Community to participate in the Public Procurement processes in Member States by the year 2019

The new agreements will serve as big plus for many skilled nationals who for years have found it difficult to move between member states to land jobs. In many instances, some would have to seek individual work permits in those member states or work under the radar.

The CARICOM leaders have said that they will ensure they will ensure they continue to advance regional integration.
